A great day of rugby at Morley, with the kids playing six games against teams from Sandal, Old Brodleians, Doncaster and West Park Leeds.
The standard of opposition was really strong β probably some of the toughest teams we've come up against. It took us a little while to settle into the day and the lack of recent game time showed early on, but by game three we started to see the strong teamwork and togetherness that we finished last season with.
Every one of the kids played their part across the six games, with some brilliant individual moments as well as plenty of good team rugby. Most importantly, they kept working for each other against strong opposition and improved as the day went on.
π Coaches' Player of the Week β Rupert
A difficult choice, but Rupert got the nod for a really strong effort throughout the whole day.
π Parents' Player of the Week β Evie
Dangerous with the ball in hand and showed great resilience in defence all day.
Plenty to work on, but lots of positives to take from our first festival and a really good step forward for the team. Well done everyone! ππ
U9βs
Just to echo everyone elseβ¦wow what a day!! Absolutely unbelievable effort from every single under 9 today. I am so proud of each and every player you really have made my first official day as coach one to remember. Luna and Corey - try scoring machines as usual I think it goes without saying we all love just to sit back and watch you two run with the ball, it really is a treat! Barnaby and Finn - absolute powerhouses today running straight with the ball, the opposition didnβt have a chance at times and itβs great to see you both come into your own and get plenty of well deserved tries! Oliver and Leni - amazing playmaking from both of you today, Leni constantly drawing the opposition in with many excellent runs and opening up the play, Oliver scoring some amazing tries, unreal passing , as well and smashing people for fun too! Hardest task ever picking players of the week this week but first up is Teddy the debutant and what a first impression he has made, the number of tackles you made today was unbelievable and the defensive pressure you put on the other teams were one of the main reasons we won many of our games comfortably today, and your first tries were well deserved as a result of it. Then last but certainly not least we have Wolf, what a machine you were in both attack and defence as usual, what stood out to me was the resilience you showed after suffering a bad knock early on but that really didnβt stop you, only drove you more to play like you did!
Huge well done again and thank you to all the parents for the support and the drive across, we really represented the club well π
Breakdown of results as follows;
Cleckheaton 1 - W
Cleckheaton 2 - W
West Park Leeds - W
Sandal - W
Doncaster - L
U10βs
A great start to the season with a tournament at Morley. The under 10βs should be proud of their individual performances today with some excellent defending and attacking. All players tried really hard to work as a team and although some teams got the better of us, everyone should be proud of their efforts.
Player of the week goes to Max for some great defending in the ruck and not shying away from maintaining possession of the ball.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at training on Thursday so you can continue to develop as a team, ready to take on Whitby next Sunday.
U11βs
What a fantastic way for our U11s to start the new season 2026/27 at the Morley Festival!
The team got off to a really strong start, showing great energy, teamwork & determination as they came away with three wins from their first three games.
We started the festival with a brilliant performance against Keighley (3-1) followed by another strong display against the hosts Morley (3-1) before making it three wins on the bounce against Sandal (2-0) The team worked hard for each other, they put in some great rugby together & showed just how much they've developed.
The next two games brought two very tough challenges against a well drilled Old Brodlians (0-3) & Rochdale (0-5) Both teams were really strong oppositions & despite the teams best efforts both teams came away with victories against us.
There was plenty for us to be proud of & the team never gave up, they continued to work hard for each other & showed a fantastic attitude throughout the day.
Three wins, two tough defeats & plenty of lessons learnt but most importantly the team enjoyed being back out there playing rugby together.
A massive Well Done to every player who represented Bridlington RUFC U11s π A brilliant first outing of the season! π π π π π
