Since September, Bridlington RUFC have been going into 3 local secondary schools (Bridlington, Headlands & Filey) to deliver PE sessions and after school clubs to increase participation in Rugby. This last half term each school had the opportunity to compete in either a tournament or competitive fixture. The year 9 tournament was hosted at Dukes Park, the year 8 fixture was hosted at Filey school.
Year 9 tournament
With Driffield school having to leave early due to parents evening and Hornsea arriving late, it did mean a reshuffle and some adaptability to the fixture list however the rugby did not disappoint
Headlands
Having low numbers any many still new to rugby Headlands represented their school with pride making each school work hard for their victories and only lost by 1 score in 2 of their fixtures, a lot of potential for this school if the boys keep working hard in training their wins will come
Driffield
Had to get through their fixtures quickly in order to get back for parents evening, they started off with a nail bitter against Headlands quickly followed by 2 defeats at the hands of Bridlington & Longcroft as fatigue was setting in before they had to quickly depart unfortunately missing out on their fixture with Hornsea
Bridlington
With some year 8s stepping up to play for the side, competitive in all fixtures including their 10-10 draw v Longcroft, lots of players representing Bridlington rugby club as well which was pleasing to see
Longcroft
Were competitive in all their fixtures, the 10-10 draw with Bridlington school was one of the highlights of the tournament going right down to the final whistle. Some year 8s stepping up to play for their team also, showcasing great rugby talent from the Beverley based school
Hornsea
From the very first whistle it was clear to see the talent that Hornsea school had at their disposal, many of their players winning the Yorkshire cup for their club side last season. Deserved winners
Year 8 fixture
Thursday 5th February we managed to get Filey school their first rugby fixture of the season for their year 8 side as they took on Headlands
This was a great fixture for both schools as each side consisted of players who play for Bridlington RUFC and other players who were playing their first competitive game of rugby
The game was end to end with lots of tries being scored and lots of great tackles, Headlands took the spoils with a convincing 55-30 victory
