Dear Member,

Firstly, may we wish you a belated Happy New Year from myself, the Directors, Dave Robinson, and his staff, and of course Mike Myerscough and Sam Fox who are wishing for a better 2021 with the resumption of playing some rugby!

Once again, I find myself writing to you with no positive news at present as to the resumption of any rugby or reopening of the clubhouse at Dukes Park for the foreseeable future due to the latest lockdown announced a few days ago.

Our plan was to re-start senior training for next Monday after a Zoom meeting held last week on the 3G pitch at the old Sports Hall of course this has now had to be cancelled due to the new guidelines.

The Yorkshire Coast & Wolds Rugby Group remain positive that we will be able to play some or all our fixtures within the group though with the possibility that we may have to start later than our first planned March 6th away game against Beverley.

There is a strong possibility that when we do commence playing within the group that we may be able to play beyond the official end of May season deadline as long as it does not interfere with the start of the 2021-2022 “official “season. I cling to the thought of watching some extremely competitive rugby, in the sun, with a beer in hand during these long cold days!

One consequence of the latest lockdown is that the RFU have cancelled their plans for the “cluster groups” in which we were to originally play fellow Yorkshire One teams such as Dinnington and Pontefract in friendly games during the present restrictions. Apparently, we will have no official RFU administered club games nationally until September 2021, when we will be playing in the Yorkshire One league again.

The management team meet regularly, electronically via Zoom to discuss our objectives for when we can reopen hopefully in the not-too-distant future. If you have anything you would like to add to our agenda’s, please let me know and I will raise the subject on your behalf.

As I have mentioned before we will need every player to be available so that we can field our two senior teams in the YC&WRG games we have planned to fulfil our fixtures. Once we get the clearance to restart training from the RFU we will probably extend our training regime to two evenings per week once again with Mike Myerscough and Sam Fox.

I have offered the use of the rugby club and its facilities to the NHS as a community vaccination centre, my communication has been acknowledged and forwarded to t he appropriate department, but I await further news as of today.

Please stay safe, we can hopefully see some positive news ahead. To quote one of my hero’s Winston Churchill from 1942 as follows:

“This is not the end.
It is not even the beginning of the end.
But it is perhaps the end of the beginning”.
